  5. NOTE:  Don't be frightened by the size of ConfgMgr.Wri -- it's
  6.        a relatively short document, but it has two imbedded 
  7.        pictures.

  9. *** WHY ***
  10.  
  11. If you already know WHY you might need this program, skip down
  12. to CHANGES.  
  13.  
  14. The purpose of this program is to help maintain multiple sets of 
  15. AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files.  There are many reasons WHY 
  16. you might need to do this.  You might want to keep a backup 
  17. AUTOEXEC and CONFIG around just in case some errant program 
  18. destroys it.  Some people like to keep a "clean" AUTOEXEC and
  19. CONFIG around just in case their system begins to behave 
  20. erratically -- a "clean" version enables them to boot-up with 
  21. the bare essentials to differentiate between a hardware and a 
  22. software problem. Other people have various programs which they 
  23. have occasion to run which are incompatible with everything 
  24. else, be it a QEMM conflict, network driver, or some other TSR 
  25. related problem.  Finally, there are those who are fortunate 
  26. enough to own notebook computers and a docking station to convert 
  27. it into a desktop-type system.  When their notebook is docked, 
  28. they might load a CD-ROM driver, but when it's portable, they 
  29. don't.

  31. Until we know if Windows '95 (aka Chicago) will deliver on the 
  32. promises of plug and play and conflict resolution, all of 
  33. the above people have a need to keep around multiple sets of 
  34. AUTOEXEC and CONFIG files.  The common mode of operation is then 
  35. to decide on the configuration de jour, copy the designated pair 
  36. of files over AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS, and then reboot the 
  37. system.  Configuration Manager allows you to create, change, and 
  38. delete these files from within Windows.  You can then assign a 
  39. pair of files to a preset button just like you do with radio 
  40. stations in your car.  And when you push a button, these files 
  41. are copied to the appropriate place, Windows exits normally, and 
  42. your system reboots.  And if you're a DOS 6.X user, Configuration 
  43. Manager will build a special AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS which 
  44. will allow you choose one of your custom configurations at boot-
  45. up, without even having to get into Windows.  If you've never 
  46. experienced any of the above scenarios, you probably DON'T have 
  47. a use for this program.

  109. *** QUICK INSTALLATION ***

  111. Configuration Manager is distributed on BBS systems without 
  112. VBRUN300.DLL for faster downloads.

  114. 1) Download VBRUN300.DLL and place in your path (or in the 
  115. \Windows\System directory).  
  116.  
  117. 2) Run SETUP.EXE from the distribution file set.  
  118.  
  119. 3) Double click on CONFGMGR.EXE in the File Manager.
  120.  
  121. That's all there is to installing Configuration Manager.
  122.  
  123. Remember that while ConfgMgr is active, on-line help is always
  124. available by pressing the Help button.

  127. *** QUICK UNINSTALLATION ***
  128.  
  129. Delete the diectory containing CONFGMGR.EXE from your hard 
  130. disk.  Delete ConfgMgr.INI from your Windows directory.  
  131. Depending upon your usage, you may also delete the following 
  132. files:  autoexec.cm$, config.cm$, cmautoex.bat, cmconfig.sys, 
  133. and c$autoex.bat.

  135. If you don't run any other Visual Basic applications, you 
  136. can also delete THREED.VBX, DDEML.DLL and VBRUN300.DLL from 
  137. your \Windows\System directory.
  138.  
  139. Configuration Manager does not modify WIN.INI or SYSTEM.INI.

  144. This program requires Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups,
  145. VBRUN300.DLL, DDEML.DLL, and THREED.VBX.

  151. be viewed from the Windows WRITE.EXE applet.  Just double-click
